The
Bone Group provides business solutions that meet the
individual needs of their clients. We specialize in
development of custom software and design & installation
of small- to medium-sized networks. Being a Microsoft
Certified Partner, we have a wide range of development
tools and resources at our disposal.
CUSTOM
SOFTWARE
Custom
software solutions are the main focus of The Bone Group.
We can design and build software of varying levels of
size and complexity:
Microsoft Office Integration Automating tasks in
Microsoft Office products can save valuable time and
allow businesspeople to be more productive. For example,
the process of creating a form letter in Word to be
mailed to a list of contacts (perhaps from another Word
document, or an Excel spreadsheet, or an Access database)
can be done automatically at the push of a button or
with a few keystrokes, thus freeing someone from having
to spend time doing it manually.
Utilities and Tools Many slow or repetitive tasks
can be automated with the use of a custom-designed utility
program.
Single-User (Desktop) Applications For single computers,
or for computers that are networked but have no need
to share the data, a small standalone desktop application
is perfect. Any data can be maintained on the useršs
computer with minimal concern about security and no
worries at all about network traffic and overhead.
EXAMPLE
A quoting and pricing system for
a small office.
Departmental
Systems For a group which needs a small or medium-sized
system with the ability to share data, the answer is
a distributed departmental application. The data will
be centrally located on the network, and the users will
have access to it through an interface on their workstation.
EXAMPLE
A multi-faceted system involving
customer management, inventory, and ordering, perhaps
even integrated with bookkeeping software.
Company-wide
(Enterprise) Systems This type of system is similar
in design to the departmental system, but it can be
much broader in scope. An enterprise system is designed
for company-wide use, rather than a department or division.
The data are centrally located and able to be accessed
from company networks in one or more physical locations.
EXAMPLE
An account-balancing system for
a holding company with offices in Chicago, New York,
and London.
Internet/Intranet
Internet (and intranet) development has come to
mean much more than just website design. New and emerging
technologies allow the use of a browser (such as Internet
Explorer) as an interface for a distributed system.
By performing all the business logic and data processing
on a central server, network overhead and traffic are
reduced, data integrity is increased, and updates to
the software need only occur in one place on the server.
The data can be viewed and updated through a browser
on any workstation (with full security, if needed).
EXAMPLE
The quoting and pricing system
from the Desktop Application example above could be
designed as an intranet application. The user would
enter basic required information and the server would
calculate the pricing based on that information and
display the results in the user's browser.
For
software that makes use of data, the heart of the system
quite often lies in the design of the database itself.
The Bone Group will design databases in:
- Microsoft
Access
- Microsoft
SQL Server
- IBM
DB/2
The
Bone Group is proficient in several interface-design
tools:
- Microsoft
Access
- Visual
Basic
- VB.NET
