Business Problem
A Chicago based barbecue sauce company was growing rapidly
and their legacy system was not growing with them. Their
system was unable to handle their expanding product
line and was not giving them the reports they needed
to get critical sales data into the hands of their sales
team. The company turned to The Bone Group to help them
define and implement a technology solution that would
expand and grow as their business grew and would work
within their current technology infrastructure and budget.
Solution
Because of a tight timeframe, peer-to-peer network infrastructure
and a Microsoft Office based environment The Bone Group
chose Microsoft Access as the development tool. The
Access database development environment provided a solid
and rapid development framework with robust reporting
capabilities. Working closely with the client to understand
their business model and using an iterative analysis
and design process, a strong database design was developed.
The design enabled the system to minimize redundant
data, allow for an easy data entry and reporting interface
and allow for unlimited product line growth.
The client also required timely sales data. To meet the requirement a reporting structure was built that allowed the client to see daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and yearly aggregations, along with two and three year comparisons of sales broken down by customers.
